Principal’s Update
Kia ora Waitetuna Whaanau, Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Whānau Catch-Up and Meet the Teacher evening! It was lovely to connect. With a number of students transitioning to new rooms this year, we felt it was important to create this opportunity. Building strong relationships between home and school is key to supporting our students' learning and well-being. We appreciate your time and support, and we look forward to a fantastic year ahead! We welcomed Lochlan to the Junior Room. Happy School days.
Garden to Table—Our Garden to Table program for 2025 started on Friday, offering students hands-on learning experiences in growing, harvesting, and preparing fresh produce. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to develop practical skills, learn about sustainability, and enjoy the rewards of their hard work. We were excited to welcome Kate, who is a Garden to Table educator. Her enthusiasm and expertise were great to have for the first session. We look forward to seeing our garden—and our students—continue to thrive!
Freshwater Biosecurity Gardens—on Friday Anna from Waikato District Council joined the Senior Room. Our students are stepping up as Freshwater Biosecurity Guardians, learning how to protect our local waterways from invasive species and maintain healthy ecosystems. Through hands-on activities and education, they are gaining valuable knowledge about biodiversity, conservation, and the importance of keeping our freshwater environments thriving. Life Ed—This term, we are excited to have Life Education visiting our school, supporting our students' learning and well-being. Each year level is exploring key topics to help them develop important life skills. The students are split across these four groups -
Year 1 & 2 – Growing a Friend: Learning about kindness, empathy, and building positive relationships. Year 3 & 4 – Self-Talk Traps & Anxiety: Recognizing and managing negative thoughts to support emo-tional well-being. Year 5 & 6 – Decision Mak-ing & Peer Pressure: Devel-oping skills to make positive choices in social situations. Year 7 & 8 – Puberty: Un-derstanding changes and developing confidence dur-ing this stage of growth.
Attendance - Overseas travel—Where possible, we encourage families to plan overseas travel during the school holidays to minimise disruption to learning. While we understand that flights are often cheaper outside of term breaks, regular attendance is crucial for student progress. We understand that long-distance travel can be a significant investment for families. When planning these trips, it’s important to make the most of the opportunity while also considering the impact on your child’s education.
Vinaka staff and whaanau for a great week. Ngaa mihi Amanda
