Newsletter Week 7, Term 2

Year 7 and 8 senior leaders at National Young Leaders Day

Kia ora Waitetuna Whaanau, it was a pleasure to take our year 7 and 8 senior leaders with Whaea Ali and myself to National Young Leaders Day. This is always such a special event

with motivating speakers. It was certainly great to be at a large venue with hundreds of other people, unlike many parts of the world who are still unable to do this. We had to Zoom this event last year and it was not the same. The speakers this year were great to listen to - these included Cam, who has cerebral palsy and spoke of the many challenges he has set himself and achieved, including climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. One of his messages was 'Know your dream, know your team'. Brooke Neel shared her journey to represent New Zealand in hockey, with particular emphasis on positive self talk. It was excellent to see our students taking notes and speaking about how they can be leaders in many different ways.

The Waitetuna Way this week goes to - Theo Browne & Senna Valentin for Gratitude

Paid Union Meetings The Board have been notified of Paid Union Meetings for teachers. The staff will be attending a meeting from lunchtime on Tuesday 29th June. If you are able to pick up your children at 12.40 (lunchtime) that would be much appreciated. There will be some staff on-site to provide supervision if you are unable to do so.

Tree Felling - unfortunately the two liquid amber trees out from the decking are now considered compromised and have to be removed. This will be done in the school holidays. My whanau and I will be splitting the wood and selling for a koha as the board have said we can donate these funds to Fiji with their devastating Covid situation. On behalf of my family we humbly thank them for this. If you would like some firewood then please email me. At this stage it will be available for pick up on Wednesday afternoon, 14th July, which is the first week of the school holidays. The wood is Liquid Amber and a reasonable quality firewood.

Education Review Office (ERO)

ERO is the school review organisation and they have been working on a new model for working with schools. Each school is assigned with someone called an evaluation partner that works alongside the school to support them to achieve their annual and strategic goals. We have been notified that our evaluation partner will start next term. I will be meeting them in two weeks. It will be interesting to see how this new model works. I will keep you informed.
