Newsletter - Week 1, Term 4 2024

Writer: AmandaAmanda

Kia ora Waitetuna Whaanau, term 4 has arrived and I am back after a very special break away. It is great to catch up with you all. I had a wonderful celebration in Fiji for my oldest son’s 21st birthday.

An exciting and busy term is planned with a technology focus. Technology encompasses a wide range of important and interesting lines of inquiry and we will look into everything from exploring the technology design process to food technology to A.I. while also emphasizing the importance of being responsible digital citizens. This includes reviewing safe internet practices and debating the ethical use of technology. Students are working on projects that require them to design and create solutions to everyday problems using technology and developing their entrepreneurial skills with meeting a need through product design and sale.

We will also continue to enjoy the fantastic range of learning in the “House of Science” kits. I love Term 4 as we challenge our Seniors to further build on their leadership skills and celebrate our Year 8s in their final term before heading to exciting new adventures.

Jess has started her teacher training with us from next week. We also welcome Greg Hill, doing his teacher refresh course.

We have had a busy first week with a Massey Scientist coming to school to talk about the Kaakahi, freshwater mussel, Ag Day on Tuesday and Fiji Day on Wednesday. Well done to the students who took their lambs to Te Mata School’s Group Day on Friday. Thanks for coming to support Ag Day. We hope there will be a few more lambs, or goats or calves next year. Thanks to Hellers for donating the sausages, thanks to Seamus and Liz Macdonald for doing the Ag Day judging, thanks to Bevan and Tim for cooking the sausages on the BBQ.

During the school break it was World Teachers Day. I would like to take the chance to thank our teachers and to thank Robyn for being Acting Principal while I was on leave.

Term 4 is always a busy term so please make a note of the dates below and place in your calendar. New date for Middle room camp will be confirmed asap. Kura Ngaahere and Kura Awa dates out soon.
