Newsletter - Week 2, Term 2 2023

Kia ora Waitetuna Whaanau,

An incredible day of designing and creating happened on Tuesday. I am seeing amazing pieces of art to wear taking shape. We hope you can join us on Wednesday 17th May at 1pm for our whole school Wearable Arts show. This will be a celebrations of ‘The Arts’. The problem solving that goes into these creations gives a real appreciation of the creativity that these learning opportunities provide and allows students to excel in or to dabble in an area that they may be less confident in. This is another example of something we are very proud of that shapes our Living Curriculum Maahanga and supports our students being life long learners.

Thanks again for your support on Monday. The teachers and I spent time on the Health Curriculum, which you will have the opportunity to feedback on during term 3 too. Every 2 years this is an aspect of our curriculum that needs school community input. So watch this space for further information in term 3. The Health Curriculum scope is wide ranging and based on needs/age/stage—at our school there is a cycle over 2-3 years with a wide range of Physical Education, Healthy Relationships, Healthy Communities, Mental Health Strategies and Sexuality Education Pubertal Change—Senior Room) taught. More info to come.

Surfing lessons—these lessons, sponsored by Sport Waikato funding are provided to us for free by Greenwave Surfing. This is a great example of our Physical Education programme and our Living Curriculum. Being able to access these free lessons and utilise the moana is a wonderful link to this amazing rohe (area).

PTA AGM—Monday 8th May at 7pm either at school or on Zoom. We look forward to seeing you at this hui to plan. We appreciate your ideas/input.

I have again emailed Minister Tiniteti my concerns and ways to support the education of our tamariki. A reminder that you can also to support your child’s education and school by emailing your support for funding improvements to the Minister’s email - j.tinetti@ministers.govt.nz Please note Area Schools and High Schools are striking next week but we are not.

Ngaa mihi Amanda and staff.
