Newsletter - Week 3, Term 3

Kia ora Waitetuna whanau,

Learning conferences - this is always a valuable time to gather together and consider goals and celebrate the learning each child has done in the first half of the year. We hope you enjoyed this time with your child's class teacher and found it helpful and productive. The report and the learning conference are there to complement each other. The report allows you to have a picture of where your child sits in reading, writing and maths against the New Zealand Curriculum levels and our schools values. In the general comment there is an opportunity to share the way your child is managing in relation to the Key Competencies - Thinking, Relating to others, Understanding Managing self and Participating and Contributing in the classroom and school life. The students have worked with their class teachers to decide on their next steps and how they can achieve these next steps - which they were able to share with you at the learning conference. If you do need additional time to discuss your child’s learning please get in contact with your child’s teacher. There will also be continuing development of the sharing of your child's learning in social studies, science, the arts, technology over their 8 year learning journey at Waitetuna school in the online vehicles we have been using, and are continuing to develop. The staff and I appreciated your thoughts about our local curriculum development if you were able to pop into the staffroom. If you were not able to put your ideas down here is a Google form link with the questions to add in your ideas - Community Consultation 2020

Advertising in the Chronicle - once a term the local schools are given the opportunity to share the experiences and learning happening at our schools with the wider community. Meridian Energy sponsors these school pages. As a school we were wondering whether any local businesses would like to advertise on this page. It would only cost $50 - which is a nearly 75% reduction in normal advertising costs run through the Chronicle. Email Amanda at principal@waitetuna.school.nz if you would be interested.

This is done by the Frankton clinic on the Frankton school grounds. They will invite you to an appointment. The year 8’s are on the priority list and should get a call-up before the end of the year. If you are not contacted or are concerned about your child’s teeth you can contact the dental service on 0800TALK TEETH (0800 825583).

All the amazing Literacy learning going on at Waitetuna School - every day. Well done to the teachers and the students for their commitment, focus and hard work to further their Reading and Writing skills.
