Principal's update

Kia ora Waitetuna Whaanau, Final board meeting this week for our current board—This week we had our final board meeting for two long standing board members. I wanted to take the time to thank all of our board and to also acknowledge Bevan Marquand and Daniel Bateman for their time on the School board as they are standing down from their positions. As a beginning principal 6 years ago Bevan and Daniel and all of the board have been hugely supportive. Their knowledge and commitment have been greatly appreciated. I have been hugely thankful for the board’s support. I will share with you our board members for the next three years in the next couple of weeks. Board nominations closed on Wednesday. Bevan and Dan will help with the hand over of the new board.

Inter School Cross Country—One week to go! We Need Your Help! Planning continues for the Inter-School Cross Country event! An email with a Google Doc outlining various jobs and roles is in your inbox. Please take a moment to look through it and add your name to any job you can assist with. Please note that the doc doesn’t appear to work on phones unless you have the correct google app down-loaded. These events rely heavily on our amazing community, and by helping each other out, we can make it a fantastic experience for all our tamariki and the other 7 schools in attendance. Our school speech competition information for the 18th August is on page two.

Our much-loved Ag Day is just around the corner, taking place on the 22nd Oct and Group Day here on the 24th Oct. We really want this annual event to continue strongly. It is a cornerstone of our rural school's tradition. Ag Day offers a unique and incredibly reward-ing experience for our students. It’s an institution we are passionate about keeping alive, as the benefits for children who participate are immense. Caring for an animal teaches responsibility, patience, empathy, and provides a fantastic hands-on learning opportunity about animal husbandry. Children are invited to bring along their lamb, goat, or calf to participate. Whether you're a seasoned animal rearer or new to the experience, we encourage everyone who can to get involved! To help make participation easier for our families, we are excited to introduce a Lamb Crèche at school! From 8:30 am to 3:00 pm, you'll be able to bring your lambs to school, and we will take care of their lunchtime feeds early on, so they are well-fed and happy. If you would like your child’s lamb to be part of a Lamb crèche please email me—principal@waitetuna.school.nz. Lorna will be sending out registration forms for our Ag day at the end of August. Look out for these. They include an option for a Caged Pet entry. Let's make this year's Ag Day and Group Day an unforgettable success!

Have a lovely weekend, Ngaa mihi Amanda and staff
