Principal’s Update
Kia ora Waitetuna Whaanau, staff had a productive Teacher Only Day further exploring the new Mathematics and Statistics Curriculum with Dr Jo Knox. Students have been focused on their learning and on Production practise. Kimo will visit us every fortnight with a focus on learning new waiata and equipping our Seniors to welcome manuhiri (guests) onto our school.
Photo Use Survey results and next steps—the results from the survey are as follows—74% of families would like to see photos of children’s faces visible when suitable in newsletters and school facebook posts. Nearly 90% of families would like to see photos of students in the newsletter. 87% of families are comfortable with a student’s photo being shared on facebook and in the newsletter and nearly 80% of families are ok with the child’s first name being included. So the implications of this survey is that our current newsletter with photos and photos on facebook will continue. If you prefer your child’s photo to not be posted or used in the newsletter can you confirm with me by email if you have not already done so. Staff will be continue to be mindful of how photos are taken and what is posted or what I put in the newsletter. If you have any further queries about this please let me know. We have included a whole school ‘Pink Shirt Day’ photo on page 2 of this newsletter. We hope to be able to continue to do whole school photos for an event. We will also not be posting any photos of children in togs at all.
Pink Shirt Day—it was a special day on Friday acknowledging the important messages surrounding Pink Shirt Day—see our photo on page 2.
Property update—with continual funding applications we were able to secure funding for phase 2 of the playground and a new pool cover. We are waiting on the outcomes of numerous other funding applications I have done to secure sufficient funding for the pool upgrades including new surfacing and painting of the pool and new concreting and pool pump moving to salt water not chlorination. Hopefully these applications are successful in the coming months. Phase 2 of the playground was designed with our year 7 and 8 leaders last year and will likely be installed from the 15th June. Please note there is no newsletter next week as I am away with the Rural Principals Conference. We will be in Tamaki Makarau this year. See you at the PTA meeting on Monday night at 7pm.
