Kia ora Waitetuna Whaanau,

I hope you had a good short week. Winter has certainly arrived. Celebrating Aotearoa and Books Through Storytelling! What an amazing show we had this week, celebrating the magic of New Zealand books! It was a joy to welcome this fantastic production back to our school, shining a spotlight on the rich stories, authors, and characters that make Aotearoa literature so special. Our students were captivated and inspired—what a wonderful way to celebrate Kiwi creativity and a love of reading!

Last week I was part of an inspiring Rural Principals Conference. The theme ‘He Awa Whiria, Braided Rivers’, was about embracing the many exciting directions, possibilities that out schools can take, ensuring the pathways we choose fit our students needs, interests and our amazing community. Our staff at Waitetuna School do our very best to provide varying learning opportunities with a strong English and Mathematics focus.

Recognising our Support Staff and Teachers with Pay Equity—our Support Staff were involved in a union meeting to address the concerns about pay equity and the limited pay offer that was brought to the table. This will be a journey that we will need to support. Our teachers and support staff go the extra mile so negotiations will need to be backed, sharing stories of what makes our people who work in schools so awe-some. We need to retain these staff. This will happen by offering a pay increase that is fair and some job security.

We will be learning with the staff at Te Mata School on Monday. Thank you for your support with our continued investigation of the new Maths Curriculum.

School will be closed on Monday. I hope you get to enjoy a lovely long weekend.

Ngaa mihi Amanda and staff
