Principal’s Update
Kia ora Waitetuna Whaanau, what a fantastic time it's been for our senior students, who've truly done us proud! The Ki-o-Rahi Tournament was a huge success, showcasing incredible teamwork and skill. Our students represented us brilliantly! We also had another memorable National Young Leaders Day at the Claudelands Events Centre, an event that continues to inspire and empower our future leaders. A big shout-out and well done to all the students who bravely opted in to the Tough Girl/Tough Guy Challenge aka Mud Run this year – their resilience and enthusiasm I have heard were great to see. These experiences offer incredible opportunities for our senior students to grow, learn, and challenge themselves outside the classroom. And to the Raglan Art to Wear team—well done! As I mentioned some of our staff and students put together amazing pieces of Art for the show on Saturday. What an achievement. Congratulations to Lila who came 2nd in her Mythical Creatures category.
Mid year Reports—your child’s mid year report will be going home at the end of the term. You will notice a few changes particularly around the graphing. We now report in phases not levels. This report provides an overview of your child’s progress and learning journey for the first half of the year. This report focuses on development in Reading, Writing and Mathematics and Statistics.
The New Zealand Curriculum is organised into learning areas and progress is assessed within these areas, with attention to integrating these through Reading, Writing and Mathematics. The diagram on the separate handout shows the progressions a child
can take. It is important to note that each child’s journey is unique. Please also refer to the Edge parent app for posts about other curriculum areas. Early next term we have Learning Conferences where you have the opportunity to come in with your child and discuss your child’s learning. More information will come out about booking these early next term. Look out for the report– teachers have put a lot of time and thought into preparing these.
We have also included information on reporting from the ministry. This information discusses the new curriculum that teachers are working with and how this may affect your child’s learning. There are interesting adjustments in the curriculum expectations. Of particular note are the year 3 and year 5 maths expectations and how the journey with these new expectations will be unique for each child.
Grandparents day—we are excited to welcome Grandparents and other whaanau to school for our Matariki celebration next Thursday 19th June. You are welcome to come to school by midday and spend some time in classes before we come together for a short assembly and then enjoy some shared kai together.
In the last week of term to finish our Aotearoa New Zealand Histories unit of learning we will be heading to Te Awamutu Museum and historic sites in Kihikihi. Some parent help will be required.
Reminder we have school photos on Monday too. If you would like a sibling/family photo you can come in for those from 8.30am.
Kia pai to raa whakataa, have a great weekend,
Ngaa mihi Amanda
