Principal’s Update
Kia ora Waitetuna Whaanau, it was wonderful to have our Matariki Grandparents and Whaanau day today. Thank you to those that could come. I always find this time a great opportunity to try and pause and consider the successes of the first half of the year, especially as we come into the last week of term next week.
Mid year Reports—as I mentioned last week your child’s mid year report is going home next Friday. This report provides an overview of your child’s progress and learning journey for the first half of the year. This report focuses on development in Reading, Writing and Mathematics and Statistics. The New Zealand Curriculum is organised into learning areas and progress is assessed within these areas, with attention to integrating these through Reading, Writing and Mathematics. The diagram that was sent out in a separate email and today discusses the new curriculum that teachers are working with and how this may affect your child’s learning. There are interesting adjustments in the curriculum expectations. Of particular note are the increased year 3 and year 5 maths expectations. This shows the progressions a child can take. It is important to note that each child’s journey is unique. You can also refer to the Edge parent app for posts about other curriculum areas. Early next term we have Learning Conferences where you have the opportunity to come in with your child and discuss your child’s learning. More information will come out about booking these early next term.
We were hoping that our Student Management System—Edge would have had the report format ready for us to use online before the mid year reporting time, but due to the significant changes they have been unable to do so. You will receive a paper copy of your child’s report and this report will not be available on Edge.
Property—Covered Decking—During the holidays we have some exciting building work being carried out. A new covered deck will be created in front of the multipurpose room. We are quite cramped where students sit and eat their kai so we are looking forward to having this all weather extra space.
Te Uku Hall upgrade – one of the Te Uku hall upgrade committee came to speak to our Senior students. They are keen to hear our ideas on the facility upgrade. Some of the students have already begun planning their designs as they have a competition running for this. There is a gathering on Sat 2nd August. See advert and more detail on page 2 of newsletter. Waitetuna is included this as we are considered part of the community. Put that date in your diary.
Have a wonderful Matariki long weekend. Ngaa mihi Amanda and staff

Te Awamutu Museum Trip—Wed 25th June—parent help required—permission slip has been sent home—due back by Monday please
Last day of Term—Fri 27th June
First day for Term 3—14th July
The Te Uku Hall Committee invites all children from Te Uku and Waitetuna Primaries to submit an entry into the competition. The competition is to design an improved outdoor area for Te Uku Hall that can be used and enjoyed by children (of all ages), families and other people in the area. The parking area needs to remain.
The competition deadline is July 31. Therefore, all entries must be submitted by July 31. These can be sent to me at kmckegg@me.com if they are in an electronic form, or I can collect them from the school. I’d be happy to drop by on Thursday afternoon after school if this works for you both.
The prizes will be drawn at the Te Uku Hall Pot Luck Dinner – on Saturday, 2 August – from 5 pm (flyer attached). The first prize will be $150, the second prize will be $100, and the third prize will be $50. I have also attached a certificate of title, which gives the measurements of the land area for the Hall. Unfortunately, it doesn’t include the position of the Hall, but I hope this is helpful for any budding landscape architects!
