Principal's Update

Kia ora Waitetuna Whaanau, it was the Year 7 and 8 students turn to compete at the Inter School /Waikato Full Primary speech event on Wednesday evening. Congratulations to Senna Valentin, Joel Doornenbal, Emma Moss for your amazing effort competing in this event and a special mention to Senna will was placed second and will now compete against the other Year 8 girls at the Ohaupo School final. Only 18 other schools out of 300 will be represented at this finals event so it is a great acknowledgement of the skills Senna has displayed with writing and then presenting this well.

Thanks to the Karioi Project for giving us the opportunity to hear Wendy speak about our native bird the matuku-hūrepo. This manu (bird) is facing critical threat to its survival. With fewer than 1,000 birds remaining, this species, also known as the Australasian bittern, is considered "Nationally Critical." The Department of Conservation (DOC) is working to protect the bird by developing new ways to survey the population and restore its wetland habitat. The biggest threats to the matuku-hūrepo are the loss of its home, predators, and human disturbance and we can all play a part in supporting with their survival. Ask your child what they learnt about this.

New kapahaka uniforms—we were able to have the new kapahaka uniforms blessed this week and our girls had a trying on spree. We are delighted with these and a truly grateful to Gallaghers for their support for the funding.

The photos to the right show Audrey with her beautiful horse competing at the North Island Secondary Schools horse riding competition. Tumeke Audrey!

Remember the PTA Meeting on Monday night at 7.30pm. Next week I have a scholarship to attend the New Zealand Principals Federation Conference in Te Whanganui a Tara (Wellington). Principals from small rural schools are invited to apply for these scholarships.

I am looking forward to the interesting gems and learning from and with other Tumuaki from around the country. I will see you on Friday 12th Sept.
