Principals News 10th May

Updated: May 26, 2019

Kia Ora Koutou,

It is great to see all the students playing on the newly re-surfaced and re-lined court. The tennis lines mean we can put the tennis net up during the summer months for all the community to utilize and the netball and basketball hoops are a hit!

Huge thank you to our amazing PTA and Windfarm Trail run organisers, Meridian Wind Farm and Waikato District Council –all of whom contributed substantial amounts of money to make this all happen!

Cross Country

Currently the weather is warm and settled for our big Cross Country event on Friday 24th May. Thank you to those parents that have already offered their time and energy for this event. Please remember to show your support for our school by filling in the forms and returning them to the office. Alternatively, you can fill in a form on the office wall directly. Our own school Cross Country will be on Wednesday 22nd May in the early afternoon.

School Production:

The Lorax

This term we have a social studies /arts focus on conservation and sustainability. The culmination of this core focus will be evident through the presentation of our school production The Lorax by Dr Suess. Students have practiced and auditioned this week for parts/roles in the production and teachers have chosen songs and dances for the class performances. We are aiming to be ready for the performance of the The Lorax by the end of term 2 but we may need to extend this to early term 3 (depending on the progress). If you are able to help with the knitting or crocheting of Thneeds (read The Lorax) this term, with the children, we would be very grateful for your assistance. Also we will soon be looking for support with creating costumes. Just let us know and we will set some dates.

Skool Loop Calendar

Our school events and dates are now all easily accessible on the Skool Loop Calendar. All dates for the year can be viewed here. The school can adjust dates if changes are necessary, so please check dates as events are approaching. National Young Leaders Day Next Tuesday 14th May the year 7 and 8’s are going to National Young Leaders Day in Hamilton. Transport is covered as we are taking the school van. Tickets are $45 per student and the school subsidises $20. Please remember to pay $25 per child for this motivational leadership event.

The Tough Girl and Guy Challenge (Mud Run) is coming up on the 7th June and this needs to be booked online by parents. Students from the Middle and Senior Rooms can attend.

Outdoor Learning/Play Area

This is our next big development that the Board of Trustees are undertaking. Simon from Let’s Grow in Raglan, who designed their outdoor play area, has been designing a Ninja / Middle Earth type play area to be developed next to the mound by the junior room (on the field side). The Board are very excited about this development and Simon is presently creating a prototype for the community to view. This innovative development will provide an interesting and inter-active play area for our children whilst creating an impact to welcome people to our school. We will keep you informed of these exciting developments.
